Twitter #Hashtags

Twitter #Hashtags

I have written a lot about the power of Twitter to create positive change in our society (see this post). Now, I am doing something about it.

I see #hashtags as the key to utilizing the full power of Twitter. They add a simple and functional aspect to tweets, allowing tweets to be grouped together if they contain the same hashtag.

Below is a list of the hashtags I find interesting, functional, and powerful. I want to see more people use hashtags like this so we can explore the possibilities of Twitter and hashtags as a way to give a single voice to a large group of people.

#POTUSVote2012

Tweet the name of your favorite presidential candidate along with the hashtag #POTUSVote2012 (POTUS = President of the United States).

I am running an application that collects all tweets that use this hashtag and tallying up the results (thanks Adam for your Twitter framework!).

This is an ongoing, continuous voting system that has not start or end date. I plan on displaying the results on HashtagPolls.com once I get that figured out :) (tweet at me, @DavidDiGiovanni, if you want to help).

Your vote has more power when you share it with others. Tweet your vote with the hashtag #POTUSVote2012 to give it even more power by participating in this very important hashtag poll.

#MakeWeedLegal

Let the world know that you think marijuana should be legalized. There is no good reason for marijuana to be illegal and this is an important issue for every American whether they smoke or not.

What if every single person in America that believes marijuana should be legalized tweeted about it? Would the people in power be able to ignore an outcry for this freedom? Let’s find out!

#PeopleWhoGetIt

#PeopleWhoGetIt is a list of individuals and organizations that are promoting wholeness through creative endeavors. Tweet at me using the #PeopleWhoGetIt hashtag to suggest someone for the list.

#PsychedelicExperience

Psychedelic experiences are some of the most important experiences we can have and are not necessarily drug experiences. Let me know what your favorite psychedelic experiences are by tweeting at me using the #PsychedelicExperience hashtag.
